Sparking STEM Futures at Oriel Science

Discover the World of Semiconductors – In Schools, In Public, and In Everyday Life

At Oriel Science, we’re excited to launch a brand-new programme of interactive workshops and exhibits all about one of the most important but often overlooked technologies in our lives: semiconductors.

At Oriel Science, we’re excited to launch a brand-new programme of interactive STEM workshops and exhibits all about one of the most important but often overlooked technologies in our lives: semiconductors.

These tiny components power everything from smartphones and solar panels to electric vehicles and medical devices, and they’re a major part of South Wales’ fast-growing tech industry. In fact, the semiconductor used in your iPhone’s facial recognition system is made right here in our region!

Thanks to support from CSconnected and the EPSRC, and in partnership with Swansea University and the Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials (CISM), our programme is part of a larger initiative called CSconnected: Sparking STEM Futures, aiming to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Book a School Workshop

Our curriculum-linked school workshops are designed for pupils Years 3 to 13 and are tailored to ignite curiosity and confidence in STEM subjects.
Semiconductors in Everyday Life school workshop.

Our curriculum-linked school workshops are designed for pupils Years 3 to 13 and are tailored to ignite curiosity and confidence in STEM subjects. These workshops introduce students to the science behind semiconductors through hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and real-world examples aiming to make an impact across the region.

Stay tuned for New Interactive Exhibits

To bring the science to life for all visitors, we will be launching new interactive exhibits. Developed with CSconnected partners and Swansea University researchers, the exhibits will explore how this invisible technology supports our everyday lives through Oriel Science’s accessible, engaging, and designed for all ages exhibition.

Keep an eye out for Public Workshops

Alongside our exhibits there are always family-friendly public workshops delivered over weekends and school holidays. These drop-in sessions are perfect for children and curious minds of all ages, offering STEM learning through exciting, hands-on activities that will reveal how semiconductors power the world around us.

Whether you’re a teacher looking to enrich your classroom, a parent hoping to inspire your child to explore the wealth of opportunities offered in the local region, or a visitor curious about the future of tech, Oriel Science and CSconnected are here to spark your imagination.

Book a school workshop for your pupils here or keep an eye on our website and socials for upcoming exhibit updates and public workshop updates.
