It has been a busy start to the year here at Oriel Science. We have been planning new workshops, organising new exhibits, hosting events, and generally getting ready for an exciting 2024.
This year we are running four different workshops, all designed by an experienced teacher to fit the National Curriculum of Wales. We have ‘Experience Imaging Exhibition’ where you can tour our exhibition with our trained staff; ‘Ray of Sunshine’ which teaches students about ultraviolet light; ‘Eyes and Ears on the World’ to discover how different animals interpret the world around them; and ‘Our Solar System and Beyond’.
We kicked off our school workshops with a brand new one: ‘Our Solar System and Beyond’ where students learn about Earth’s place in the Solar System and get a chance to try their hand at some of the activities astronauts in space do in their daily lives. We also brought back a classic with our 'Shape of Speed' workshop where students could test their car making skills and learnt more about aerodynamics. So far, we have hosted four workshops attended by 150 students and we hope to see more of you soon!
On Monday mornings, we have been holding Social Prescribing events in collaboration with the Regional Neuropsychology and Community Brain Injury Service from Swansea Bay University Health Board. Patients have been coming to Oriel Science where we have been hosting a variety of workshops and activities to take a closer look at the research and ideas behind our Imaging exhibition’s exhibits and to encourage connection with other patients who have had similar experiences. Oriel Science are very excited about this partnership and hope to continue this work for years to come.
We have welcomed over 500 of you to the venue this month. We have some exciting events coming up in February half term so keep an eye on our website for more great workshops and events!
