What is Oriel Science?

Oriel Science provides science events and exhibitions showcasing Swansea University’s research in the community. We create accessible, informative and interactive exhibitions focused on the work and collaborations of the University’s research community; our aim is to make research accessible to the public.

Oriel Science opened in September 2016 as a research-led, hands-on science centre ‘pop up’, in a disused shop in Swansea city centre. Student ambassadors and researchers welcome visitors, we run a school’s programme, talks and interactive schools workshops. We are a university-run, research-led science centre designed for passers-by to see, feel and touch research; a place where researchers and the community converse.

The ‘Story of Time’ exhibition ran from September 2016 to June 2017 and took visitors on a visceral journey through time as it is relevant to different scientific themes.  “Time” welcomed over 16,000 visitors, and 1,000 students.

Our city centre ‘Pop up’ has now ended. We are still to be found at public events around Wales, such as the Wales Air Show and The Royal Welsh show.
